The Bell UH-1B helicopter crashed at about 5 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Sonia Porter, deputy director of emergency management at the Logan County office, told CNN that the helicopter, known as the Hui, crashed on a rural road.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw the helicopter on fire and extinguished the fire, Bryant said.
“I ran as fast as I could, I went under protection, I went up by helicopter,” he told the WSAZ. “But the fire was very hot and very intense, and the person did not get out of there.”
After the crash, one of the owners showed up at the scene, Bryant told WSAZ, although he did not name the owner.
Logan County is located near the Kentucky border.
The FAA said the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board would investigate the crash.
